Shorin Ryu Karate
65traditional karate and kobudo
When i look back on my experience practicing this style of karate i find that i have been privaledged to be instilled some things that non-traditional karate lacks.
I find that this is one of the very few where every student knows and maintains the basics taught to them at the very beginning even after all that they have acquired. Also I have found that this is one of the few styles where all the students know the history of the style and where and who it came from before ever learning a single move. In addition, this style is easy to learn based off of common sense principals and movements that cause for less effort and fancy movements and more technique and precision.
I would very much recomend this style of martial arts to everyone from adults and seniors with little flexibility and movement range to children with high energy in need of discipline

The okinawan people developed their farming tools into weapons that were very effective against the samurai. The Kama, Sai, Nunchaku, Bo, and Tonfa are the most common that were utilized. The Oar and Okinawan Brass knuckles are just a couple more.

Greetings all
For development of mind, body and spirit, study of a traditional martial art is very valuable. As you look at all the different styles and origins, you will probably notice that they all seem to have strenges and weakness as a self-defense martial art. Some traditional MA weapons training are good but how useful will that Sai or Oar kata really be?
I studied traditional martial arts including Tae Kwon do, Uchi Ryu, and a Shotokan/Kempo blend. I am presently studying FMA now. It is a very practical art as their stick training can be applied to Canes, Flashlights, Ice Scrappers, Kubotan key chains or whatever you have in your hand. .
I also am a firearms teacher in MA and believe the firearm training is an important component of Martial arts. I humbly suggest that there is no one perfect martial art. It is up to the student to extract all that is good.

I agree with you jrose. I have been practicing karate back when I was in high school and it sure was fun. Learning the discipline the way martial artist does. After practicing this kind of art, you can shift techniques from karate to any martial arts like kick boxing or MMA. The basic parts are instilled in the art of karate.
